British Energy Group plc
British Energy Group plc is the UK’s largest
generator of electricity. With a dedicated workforce of about 6,000 skilled
professionals, we produce around one-fifth of the nation’s electricity.
We own and operate eight nuclear power stations. In addition, we own and
run a coal-fired power station.
Our nuclear stations have a combined capacity of
almost 10,000 megawatts, whilst our coal-fired plant adds a further 1,960
megawatts of output.
We operate two types of nuclear reactor: the
advanced gas-cooled reactor (AGR); and a pressurised water reactor (PWR).
Sizewell B is the only PWR nuclear power station in our portfolio.
Doosan Babcock
Doosan Babcock is a multi-specialist energy services
company operating in the thermal power, nuclear, petrochemical, oil & gas
and pharmaceutical industries. Doosan Babcock is also a leading international
steam generation OEM and supplier of the cleanest, most efficient coal powered
technology in the world. We provide innovative technology that supports and
enhances the service life of energy assets across the globe.
We have universally recognised expertise in each of
our key areas of activity. For over a century our people have been adding bottom
line value for our customers. We develop cutting edge technologies to improve
plant performance, reduce emissions and ensure safe and efficient plant
operation. Today Doosan Babcock can claim an unequalled track record of
successfully completed projects with more than 150,000 MWe installed capacity
worldwide. In the past two years alone we have installed over 23,000 MWe of
supercritical technology.
Frazer-Nash Consultancy
Frazer-Nash Consultancy is a world class systems and
engineering technology organisation, with an engineering pedigree reaching back
into the early part of the 20th century.
We are one of the UK’s biggest providers of
systems and engineering technology, with nearly 260 permanent employees at six
UK sites - Dorking, Bristol, Burton-on-Trent, Glasgow, Plymouth, and in the
North West, together with a satellite office in Weymouth. We provide
independent, impartial advice to our customers in the defence, transport,
industrial and energy sectors.
We employ a systems approach to all of our business
activities from marketing, through business generation and delivery, to client
satisfaction. Our systems approach comprises a structured process to understand

Halcrow
Halcrow specialises in the provision of planning,
design and management services for infrastructure development worldwide. Our
purpose is to sustain and improve the quality of people’s lives.
Our goal is to become the consultant that clients
and partners naturally seek out when addressing their greatest challenges.
Halcrow has considerable experience in the provision of services to the nuclear
industry; to support the development of operational facilities, decommissioning
and new build, for both civilian and military facilities.
We are working with our clients to deliver pragmatic
solutions to some challenging projects, including the Dounreay shaft isolation
for UKAEA and two modern ILW stores, at Hunterston ‘A’ and Hinkley Point
‘A’ for BNG. We’re also providing services for the low level waste
repository at Drigg and have worked at a number of British Energy’s sites for
the last ten years. We provide integrated design and management services
for any nuclear related project
Howden
Howden supplies highly specialised blower packages for
the nuclear industry, and equipment for a number of other applications. Howden
is leading the way in developing helium gas circulators for the latest
inherently fail-safe pebble bed modular reactors (PBMR).
We designed and developed the CO2 circulators, or
submerged blowers, that provide the heat transfer in the Advanced Gas-cooled
Reactors (AGRs) that provide the bulk of the UK’s nuclear generated
electricity; units that once installed operate with no maintenance during plant
operation. We also provided the centrifugal and axial fans used in the cooling
and other auxiliary systems.
For the more common water cooled reactors, we supply
the fans associated with the various safety systems and reactor building
cooling, and the diaphragm compressors for radioactive gas leak recovery. Where
these gases have to be compressed to high pressure it is our compressors that
are mainly preferred.
