Committee Member Profiles Bill Bryce, Chairman - Bill is an aeronautical engineer with Honours BSc and MSc in the subject from Glasgow University. He is also a CEng and FIMechE. He has worked most of his life in the energy business for Doosan Babcock Energy Ltd. He entered the company as a Research Engineer and ran all of Doosan Babcock’s research division for several years before becoming the Director for Nuclear Business in 1987. He continued in this capacity until his semi-retirement in 2004. He is currently retained by Doosan Babcock as an adviser on nuclear matters, particularly on new build. He has been a Director of the NIA for many years and is Acting Chairman while he and a few fellow directors select a permanent chairman. Anders Rune Hansen - NI CASS Secretary - Anders is a senior engineer with 16 years experience in engineering design. Initially in Denmark in research and development of electrostatic precipitators and later in Scotland in the manufacturing businesses including tunnelling machines and vacuum furnaces. Anders then concentrated on nuclear safety case production, HAZOP/HAZAN assessment and dry fuel route assessment and is working for Risktec as a consultant in particular with trepanning, modification justification for several BNG and BE Power Stations. Anders has been a member of the NI since 2006 and participated in the YGN 2004 Reactors Seminar. Nick Fleming - Nick has over 10 years experience in the project management of major engineering, procurement & construction projects in both civil and defence nuclear industries. He has worked for both site licence and subcontract organisations. He is currently working for Doosan Babcock, project managing the engineering & procurement of a sludge storage facility at Sellafield site. Nick has been a committee member since the beginning of 2006 and attended the YGN 10th anniversary event in October of that year. Glen Little - Glen has 29 years experience working in the Power Industry for Doosan Babcock Energy Ltd. He qualified as an Aeronautical Engineer, completed a PhD on Offshore Structures and has carried out integrity assessments and plant improvement work on all types of thermal power plant as well as offshore oil platforms and petrochemical plant. For the last 15 years he has been involved in the Nuclear Industry, managing the technical aspects of major pressure boundary repairs on Magnox and AGR plant, and has led a consortium of companies providing technical and implementation support to Magnox Electric under a five year ‘Strategic Alliance’ contract. Latterly he has been involved in major new build and refurbishment projects at Sellafield and sits on the NDA/NIA Supply Chain Improvement Project Committee. Alan Rough - Alan is the PBMR project manager with Howden UK responsible for the design and supply of submerged helium circulators for the PBMR in South Africa. Prior to this he spent 9 years with Weir Pumps Limited, 5 years as general manager, power and nuclear projects. He was with NNC (now AMEC/NNC) for 18 years and head of department responsible for quality and progress during new nuclear builds including UK AGRs. He was also seconded to Westinghouse Nuclear Components, Pensacola, during the construction of Sizewell B. He has also undertaken work as a site manager at Faslane and Coulport and spent 3 years as site manager for decommissioning projects at Hunterston A. Alan joined the NI in late 2007. Alan Ruiz - Alan has 8 years experience in the management and production of modern standard safety cases for a large variety of nuclear facilities, including waste stores, processing facilities, fissile material stores and gaseous discharge systems. He is a chartered chemical engineer, has an MSc in Safety Engineering form the University of Lancaster and is a member of the Safety and Reliability Society. He has been a NI member since 1999 when he started work at Dounreay as a graduate engineer. Since that time he has taken part in events organised by the NI and YGN on several occasions. In May 2006 he was one of 30 NI members who took part in the technical tour of Chornobyl in the Ukraine.
Claire Sutherland - Claire has yen years experience in the Nuclear
Industry (UKAEA Dounreay, Hunterston A) as a multi-skilled Chemical Engineer,
ranging from Commissioning and Project Supervision to Project Co-ordination and
Management; initially taken on as a graduate engineer and now nearing chartered
status. She also has one year's experience of carrying out DSEAR assessments on
Scottish Water projects. |
