Emergency Generation for Japan, Post Fukushima

  • Chris Harvey, Area Sales Manager & Grant Richardson, General Manager, Aggreko.
• Description:
  • Aggreko is best known for providing modular power generation packs to big events such as rock concerts, and large sporting events such as the Olympic Games or the World Cup. However, Aggreko is also one of the world’s leading suppliers of power generation contingency planning and disaster recovery, with the proven capability to respond to both man-made and natural disasters. 
    
    Chris Harvey and Grant Richardson will tell us about Aggreko’s post-Fukushima contract with the Japanese government, describing how the company was able to help the long term recovery process. They will also cover more general issues, such as how their systems can address prolonged loss of external or in-house generated power supplies at both nuclear and other key infrastructure facilities. Additionally Chris and Grant will describe how their systems interface with grid systems, including black starts and grey starts which are often required during extreme weather conditions.
    
    This talk will then lead to a general discussion when we will present some summary slides on the Weightman / ONR report for Fukushima: how it has been received by the industry and the media; the impact on the operational sites in Scotland; the impact on the new build programme.
